All about the trip
If you’re travelling between Budapest and Vienna, why not spice it up with an added wine tour?
There’s a reason so many travellers flock to Budapest and Vienna, it’s because they are two of Europe’s most interesting and alluring cities. So, if you’ve got these two cities on your to-visit list, why not let us transfer you and take you wine touring along the way?
This wine-transfer tour focuses on the regions between Budapest and Vienna, in particular, the Sopron wine region in Hungary and the Burgenland wine region in Austria.
Along with the wine-tasting, you’ll also see a range of interesting architecture, from medieval structures to Baroque palaces to rustic village homes. The day includes a visit to a winery, where you’ll experience a tasting tour.
The route takes us through Sopron in northwest Hungary to the shallow Lake Fertő (Lake Neusiedl), which is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and straddles the Austrian/Hungarian border. Heading through Burgenland, Austria’s most varied wine region; which produces reds, whites and sweet botrytized wines. You’ll taste Blaufrankisch and discover why it is known as Austria’s red wine capital.
This region is dotted with castles and aristocratic homes. Some of the most stunning are the two Eszterházy family castles, one is in Fertőd, Hungary (modelled after Versailles) and the other is in Eisenstadt, Austria.
We’ll also make time to visit Rust, a lovely village on the shore of the reed-covered Lake Fertő, the second largest steppe lake in Central Europe. It is around here that lunch will be served, typically at a restaurant or wine tavern offering local delicacies.
Save time on travel planning and logistics by being transported door-to-door between Budapest and Vienna…and experience real wine country along the way!
