All about the trip
For beer connoisseurs across the world, Budapest is becoming the perfect destination in which to try a whole plethora of delicious craft beers and ales. All fresh from the tap!
The Hungarian craft beer revolution has quietly been building a lot of momentum over the past few years, so much so that the rest of the world has now begun to take notice. Downtown Budapest now offers a smörgåsbord of bars, micro-breweries and local craft beers…and of course, we would like to invite you to learn all about them with us!
So join us for a beer-tasting adventure in which you’ll explore Budapest’s best craft beer spots. Together, we’ll visit three different bars in order to taste at least six beers, all in a range of different styles. Your beer-expert guide will explain to you all about each beer, telling you all about the stories behind its creators and interesting info regarding the brewing process.
As we taste the different beers over the course of the tour, your guide will take you back to the beginning of Hungarian beer history. They will explain how it all started, with the nomadic Magyars tribes people, who likely learned how to use hops, barley, and malt from the Slavs. How the monasteries began brewing in the 14th century and then how the guilds further developed it in the 16th century.
The beer industry really started to develop in the 1840s after a law was introduced making it possible for anyone to brew, sell, and import beer in Hungary. The first commercial brewery was built in Pest in the Kőbánya neighbourhood. This area soon became known as “beer city” since it turned out that the underground limestone caverns were perfect for fermenting and storing beer.
Today’s beers are vastly different from those in the medieval times, but the stories involved with local production are just as fascinating.
So, join us to experience Hungarian craft beer in all its glory while the revolution is still fresh.
