All about the trip
Each year from November throughout January, humpback whales and orcas gather in the Norwegian fjords to feast on herring during the rough winter. With start in Skjervøy, we take you out for an adventure that for many of us is a well-kept childhood dream. After a short introduction and safety briefing held by your skipper, it is time to set sail to explore the fjords, mountains and wildlife while searching for the humpback whales and orcas.
Cruising through the stunning fjord is an experience in itself, with its natural beauty attracting all sense. We leave Skjervøy marina around 10:45 for about 3 hours of sailing. Nothing beats the excitement of being fully in the present moment and soaking in every inch of an impression during the search for the orcas and humpback whales.
Even though we are never guaranteed to see the whales, your professional skipper knows just how to track the swimming giants and will provide optimal chances for you to experience a successful safari. Meanwhile, you enjoy the time onboard The Hawk, a comfortable 46 feet catamaran with a heated indoor lounge and soft bean bags on deck.
We know that you need to keep your energy levels during the tour, and have prepared a snack box including hot beverages to warm you up. Your skipper welcomes questions about navigation and arctic marine wildlife. This tour operates on Wednesday-Sunday.
Lean back and relax in a comfortable bean bag out on deck, with a cup of hot coffee, tea or chocolate. This may be the best way to enjoy the fjords!

Instructions
Make sure to charge your camera and phone batteries ahead, since it tends to drop quickly in cold weather and we may not be able to charge everybody's battery onboard.
Catamarans are generally the best stable form of boats, but if you are extremely sensitive to sickness you may want to use seasickness pills. Naturally, we can never guarantee that you won't get seasick.
There are no guarantees to spot the whales, but we have a great track record when it comes to finding them.
The whales migration pattern may change from year to year. The humpback whales & orcas are normally in the fjords around Tromsø from the beginning/mid November until the end of January.
Due to the outbreak of Covid-19, it is preferably if you can come and leave in your own clothing suitable for arctic conditions, although we do offer warm safety suits if you cannot.
This tour starts and finish in Skjervøy.
