All about the trip
Covering an area of 1,190 km2 with a basal circumference of 140 km, Etna is the highest active volcano in Europe outside the Caucasus, and it is a UNESCO World Heritage. This tour is your chance to explore this site from above.
Your adventure begins at Piazza Sant'Alfio, where you meet your friendly and knowledgeable guide. From this point you take our transfer to the cable car station of Sapienza Refuge, at an altitude of 1,960 meters, to go up to 2,500 meters. From here, you discover the lunar landscape of Piano del Lago, a land made of sand and volcanic ash. You can also visit a crater created by the 2001 eruption. From the rim of this crater, located at an altitude of 2,680 meters, the view is impressive. You can see the summit craters in front of you and the massive amphitheater of Valle del Bove.
Regarding the way back, you can take the cable car, or walk the sandy grounds, craters, and lava streams down to the parking. What Wikipedia Says
