All about the trip
Join us for an unforgettable day of Korean culture with this comprehensive morning tour.
Beginning the day at 9am with collection from your hotel in Seoul, here you will meet your friendly English-speaking tour-guide for the day. We will then make our way to the impressive Changdeok Palace to begin our tour of cultural enlightenment.
Changdeok Palace was the second royal villa built after Gyeongbok Palace in 1405. Changdeok was the principal palace for many of the Joseon kings and is the best preserved among the five remaining royal Joseon palaces.
The rear garden of Changdeok was used as a place of rest by the royal kings of yesteryear. It boasts a gigantic tree that is over 300 years old, a small pond and a pavilion. The palace grounds are comprised of a public palace area, a royal family residence building and the rear garden.
Next on our tour will be the Bukchon Hanok Village. This village was once home to many Korean aristocrats a long time ago. Its luxury tile-roofed houses called 'Giwas' have been preserved since the Joseon Dynasty. Now, the village operates as a location of cultural importance where visitors come to experience the aesthetics of the Joseon Dynasty.
There is also a cultural centre located at Bukchon Hanok Village, called The Bukchon Cultural Center. Here you will find more info on the village along with some hanok-style restaurants which were recently built inside the complex. The Bukchon Cultural Center immerses visitors in a traditional Korean atmosphere as it is centred between two of Seoul’s main royal palaces.
After Bukchon we will make our way to the Dong-Lim Knot Museum. Originally opened in April 2004, the Donglim Knot Museum exhibits a variety of decorative traditional Korean 'maedeup' (knots). There is also 'norigae' for hanbok, belts and pouches on display, as well as the materials used to create them. Housed inside a 'hanok' (a traditional Korean house), the gallery has a variety of exhibits, including old and new artwork depicting Korean culture. The museum also operates a maedeup class taught by an apprentice of the museum's curator, Sim Yeong-mi.
After the knot museum we will visit the Hansangsoo Embroidery Museum.
This equally important museum is also located in Bukchon Hanok Village. It exhibits embroidery-related relics and the artworks of Han Sang-soo. The museum was established to promote Korean embroidery artwork, preserve traditional techniques and encourage new creations.
Afterwards we will also visit an Amethyst or Ginseng Centre. So join us for this exciting morning of cultural insight into Korea's ancient past!
