Cairo - The Mother of the World
Cairo is the capital of Egypt and the largest city in Africa. It is located in the Nile delta. The oldest part of the city lies further away from the river, while modern skyscrapers and luxury hotels sit right along the Nile. On the opposite west bank of the Nile lies Giza. The part of the city known by the world-famous pyramids. Given its position on the crossroads of Africa, Asia, and Europe, and its importance played in history, Cairo has been nicknamed the Mother of the World. The historic part of the city has been a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1979.
