All about the trip
Enjoy the ride across the countryside to the Rolous group, learning about local villages and different aspects of life: farming cycle, vegetable grown, domestic animal farming with the warm and enthusiastic greet from friendly kids and locals. Also, the visit of Rolous group, ancient Khmer civilization site of Hariharalaya: Preah Ko, Bakong and Lolei (first 3 temples of Angkorian period), standing amidst the refreshing peaceful and tranquil environment.
Step back into the ancient temple dating back to the beginning of the Angkorian period. The first stop for the day is Bakong. Referred to as a temple-mountain architectural design, its grand scale and picturesque moat with surrounding vegetation invites visitors. Explore the grounds of the temple’s grandeur on foot. Making our way inside the pagoda we meet a local monk for a traditional blessing. You will have the opportunity to engage with the locals who live at the Buddhist temples on the grounds. Your guide will provide information on the small villages and of the lives of its residents. Before leaving the village, you’ll take part in a special Buddhist tradition whereby local monks will impart wishes of good luck and success in a solemn, age-old ceremony.
After bidding goodbye to Bakong, we visit a local Khmer arts village. Our first stop is at a leather carving workshop to learn about the arts of classical dance and shadow puppetry. We also make stops and a stone and wood carving workshop before seeing the intricate process of silk and cotton weaving at Khmer Group Art of Weaving. The last stop on the tour is to the Prolong Khmer Pottery and Weaving Training Centre. Here it is possible to do a pottery class or purchase an original design made by one of the local artisans.
