All about the trip
Join us for a full day of cycling through the beautiful countryside of Siem Reap as we head into its many surrounding villages. This tour will give you some respite from the busy city and tourist-covered temples. Learn all about village life as we stop to talk to locals and also enjoy a traditional Cambodian lunch together.
As many people can agree, there is no better way to explore a new destination than by the leisurely pace of a bicycle. We will cruise past paddy fields, thick misty jungle, ancient villages, a secluded Buddhist temple, and the West Baray reservoir. We'll also visit local village artisans and learn how they ply their trade; whether they’re weaving baskets, distilling rice wine or making Khmer noodles. After working up an appetite all morning, a traditional Cambodian lunch will be provided at a local family house in the village.
Our day of fun begins at 8:00 in the morning when you will be collected by private vehicle by your English-speaking guide for the day. We will then head over to the Siem Reaper office to be fitted with a mountain bike and helmet.
Our first stop after making our way out of the city will be a gorgeous Buddhist temple, here you can spend time admiring its ancient features and understanding its significance to the local community. We will then further explore the area, smelling beautiful incense provided by local monks and admiring the elaborate scenery.
Afterwards we will continue the ride and visit a small village where Khmer noodles and bamboo sticky rice cakes are made in the local traditional style. Make sure to try some of these delicious local snacks!
Our next stop will then be the incredible West Baray reservoir. This is always a great stop to take photos at.
At noon, we will enjoy a traditional Cambodian lunch at a local restaurant. After enjoying this relaxing setting with some inspiring conversation, we will then start to head back towards Siem Reap, cruising through more villages. After a short while, we will then stop in one village to learn about traditional Cambodian basket weaving, which is a unique and ancient handicraft here. Finally, we will visit a local rice wine distillery, where we can sample different rice wine infusions and learn the story behind its creation.
