All about the trip

Covering an area of 1,190 km² with a basal circumference of 140 km, Etna is the highest active volcano in Europe outside the Caucasus, and it is a UNESCO World Heritage. This tour is your chance to visit the summit craters of this amazing place.

Your adventure begins at Piazza Sant'Alfio, where you meet your friendly and knowledgeable guide. During your excursion, you reach an altitude of 2,900 meters by jeep and cable car. You will hike for about two hours up to the 3,300 meters high summit craters. From this viewpoint, you have dramatic views of the lunar desert. You can even see the border of Voragine to observe the spectacle of smoking craters.

After a stop on the rim of the craters to take pictures, you hike down the volcano for an exclusive visit into a lava tube with helmets and torches.

Approaching the lava flow depends on security conditions.

What to take with you?

Don’t forget to bring your hiking shoes (also available for rent), windbreaker jacket or sweatshirt, water, and camera.
You can rent shoes (3€), windbreaker jacket (2€) or hiking sticks (2€).

Optional transfer from hotels in Catania, nearby Etnean villages, Taormina or other places outside the province can be arranged at extra fee.
